The Philharmonic Winds presents Sounds of Japan 3 - a special concert to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan - with prominent Japanese maestro and award-winning composer Yasuhide Ito leading the wind orchestra for this concert.
For this concert, we're featuring major classics by some of the very best Japanese wind orchestra music composers. One of the highlights is Maestro Ito's own Concerto for Tsugaru-Shamisen and Wind Band, which will feature Mr Nobuto Yamanaka, a Master of the Japanese traditional instrument, the Tsugaru-Shamisen.
Besides traditional and contemporary wind music, you will also get to enjoy Japan's popular culture, and what better to showcase than composer Joe Hisaishi's music from the anime movies Porco Rosso and Spirited Away by the world famous Studio Ghibli.
You can also look forward to popular theme songs from anime series such as Lupin The Third which was based on a popular manga, Chage and Aska’s Say Yes from the Japanese television drama 101 kaime no Propose, which spent 13 consecutive weeks at the top of the Japanese Oricon weekly single charts.
